Hello dear readers of Alexey Shevchenko’s blog “Healthy Lifestyle”. Now is the height of Lent, and everyone who fasts feels serious hunger (especially at the sight of all sorts of goodies), and those who do not fast sometimes feel pricks of conscience. In a word, these are very difficult times.
Sometimes it can be so difficult to comply with strict requirements that the thought arises that it would be easier to endure a complete refusal of food than to constantly resist the temptation to add a cheese sandwich or cutlet to the lean porridge. Such thoughts have a rational grain in them. If you have no contraindications, then you can really try something similar to the 40-day fast of Christ. There are many methods of physiologically completed fasting, and one of them is Suvorin fasting.
Main points
The process that occurs during famine according to Suvorov’s method is:
- Autonomous – independent, self-developing. During Suvorin fasting, no external intervention or assistance to the body is required. The author of the method claims that cleansing is natural and provided for by nature in advance.
- General. The characteristic is fair, since in 6 weeks there is a complete cleansing of all components of the human body: tissues, organs. Garbage and toxins are removed, the body gets rid of slagging.
- Deep. Cleansing penetrates the body through and through, affecting all deep and hard-to-reach places, the treatment of which was beyond the reach of those times when the technique was developed.
- Coming from within. The line is clear, cleansing begins not from the surface, not with ointments and injections, but from the depths of the body, from the inside. Suvorov insists that diseases must be treated by eliminating the root, and for this it is necessary to cleanse the body according to his method.
Fasting is inertial, it should not be interfered with until complete cleansing and the appearance of appetite. If this condition is not met, there may be negative consequences, food rejection, exhaustion, emotional and nervous shock, and stress.
Upper and lower sewage disposal paths
Complete cleansing of the body is influenced by a couple of mechanisms, which correspond to 2 ways:
- The first is intended for the period when a person eats in the usual way. Then waste disposal occurs from top to bottom, that is, food enters the mouth, passes through the gastrointestinal tract and exits naturally.
- The second is designed for a time when the body is in a state of hunger strike and feeds on previously prepared reserves. This path goes opposite to the first - from bottom to top. It begins in the gastrointestinal tract and ends in the oral cavity, on the surface of the tongue, which is the place for the excretory canals.
To a person who is not aware of the biological processes occurring in the body, such a simultaneous interaction of two opposite pathways will seem strange. However, this is characteristic of the human body; both the lungs (taking in oxygen, removing carbon dioxide) and the heart (pushing out arterial blood, drawing in venous) work according to the return-receipt pattern.
Pancreas
The pancreas takes on the role of collector in all these cleansing processes. The waste in the body flows through internal pathways into this organ and then enters the gastrointestinal tract. The author took this guess from the following considerations: diabetes mellitus occurs due to contamination of the pancreas, and with fasting carried out according to the method, the specific manifestations of the disease disappear after 5-6 days.
If you analyze urine, the percentage of sugar in it will be less than 1. It was this fact that prompted Suvorin to believe that cleansing is aimed specifically at the pancreatic gland. Apparently, cleaning this organ is the main task of voluntary fasting.
The connecting link in the cleansing chain is the stomach with the participation of the liver and pancreas. The intestines, like the stomach, play an important role in the cleansing processes of the body, triggered by hunger. Slags and toxins pass through it before entering the oral cavity. However, the intestines do not change their function while following the technique. All cleansing of the body takes place in a strictly prescribed order, so until one organ is cleansed, it will not be possible to remove waste from another.
During fasting, a white or yellow coating forms on the tongue; it often covers the entire organ, but can be spotted. In fact, the correct name for this plaque is effusion, since it does not appear externally and is not a deposit of saliva. Formations on the tongue appear from within the body and are a consequence of the removal of waste and toxins.
It happens that in people who adhere to the technique, the tongue becomes brown or black, sometimes it becomes stained, streaked, or becomes indigo color. The author claims that such a variety of colors is associated with the individuality of the effusion; in people, the body is not equally polluted. As evidence, Suvorin cites his observations of patients of different genders, ages, and illness patterns, and claims that it is the diversity of tongue conditions that confirms that the process comes from within.
The oral cavity is an indicator of the cleansing of the body; the closer the end of the hunger strike, the cleaner it becomes, acquiring a healthy red-pink color, getting rid of stains, plaque, and effusions.
Upper and lower paths of purification
The second route of disposal (from the inside through the oral cavity) is more important than the first. In this direction of cleansing the body, wastes and toxins are removed from the body through pathways that run in such a way that they do not allow the risk of blood poisoning and the spread of diseases throughout the human body.
When fasting according to Suvorin's method, the body gets rid of pus and decomposition products without side effects: elevated temperature, fever, malaise. The author gave the name “upper” to this path, and “lower” to the natural one.
The upper path of waste disposal only works when the intestines and pancreas are cleansed, that is, after a week of fasting.
It is precisely because of the direction of removal of toxins from the body that food cannot be consumed during a hunger strike at any time, without causing an appetite. If hunger is difficult to bear and appetite does not go away, then food should be introduced carefully.
Suvorin argues that food consumption, with the second elimination pathway normalized, can be fatal. The explanation is given as follows: when food enters the stomach, the pancreas gives juice that helps process it, at the same time all the garbage and slag that should have left the body through the upper path changes its direction of exit.
The body moves to the lower path of waste disposal, toxins move in the opposite direction, and infection of the body can occur. Suvorin mentioned a case with a fatal outcome precisely for this reason - a sudden change in the direction of cleansing the body.
The importance of rinsing
The removal of toxins from the body through the oral cavity and saliva begins from the first fasting day. This phenomenon explains, according to the author, the fact that appetite disappears in the first days of cleansing. Suvorin associates the lack of signals about the need for food with the fact that the garbage removed from the body poisons the taste nerves and receptors, thereby preventing hunger signals from passing to the brain.
It takes about a week for the process to become autonomous, sometimes 5 days are enough for the body to get used to the new regime and establish upper sewage disposal.
In the first week, when the body adapts to changes, it needs water, but it does not have time to pass through the mouth and gastrointestinal tract on time; during hunger, everything that comes through the oral cavity is difficult for the body to accept. Due to such features, the body suffers, a person becomes susceptible to headaches, dizziness, general weakness and malaise.
People and doctors associate the symptoms of the first week with malnutrition and exhaustion, which is fundamentally the wrong decision. The reason for this condition is a lack of water and the inability to absorb it in the required quantity. The liquid is needed to remove debris that has accumulated over years of constant eating.
Without water, waste products remain in the body, cannot be released and poison the blood, which causes symptoms of exhaustion. Enemas and rinses eliminate this problem, as they act on the intestines, not the stomach. In the first, the ability to absorb water remains at the original level. An enema is a necessary condition for fasting people; without it, therapeutic cleansing can give the opposite results and lead to unpleasant consequences.
Who is A.A. Suvorin?
Alexey Alekseevich Suvorin was born in 1862. He was not a doctor by training. Having received a historical and philological education, he worked in the editorial office. It was at this stage of his career that Suvorin began to think about how beneficial fasting treatment was and whether such a technique could help a person. Of course, the first stages of writing the book were difficult; a lot of information had to be collected. But subsequently a certain treatment strategy began to emerge, which will be discussed further.
Suvorin was a fan of various healing techniques, with the help of which one can be cured of diseases and prolong life. He studied European, Western and Eastern methods, and always tested them on himself. A little later, he organized his own publication, which published literature on alternative medicine.
Since Suvorin was a representative of the intelligentsia, he had to fight on the side of the whites. After the revolution he moved to Yugoslavia. In a foreign land, his fate was also not easy. A false denunciation against Suvorin led to him being sent to prison. In order to express his disagreement, Suvorin went on a hunger strike. The fast lasted 39 days. It is this event that is considered a turning point in the fate of Suvorin.
During the hunger strike, Alexe Alekseevich's health improved significantly. The chronic diseases that he suffered from before prison disappeared. The author of the fasting method carefully observed the changes taking place and recorded them. After leaving prison, he published his own book, where he described in detail his fasting method, the discovered properties of the body and tips for improving health.
Initially, doctors negatively assessed Suvorin’s work. They motivated this by the fact that the author did not have sufficient knowledge or medical education to create the method. Therefore, in adulthood, Suvorin nevertheless graduated from the Medical Institute. He helped hundreds of patients with his technique. He advised many personally or maintained active correspondence.
Suvorin fasting is still very popular today. However, in order for cleansing using his method to not cause harm, it is important to strictly follow the author’s recommendations and carefully monitor the reaction of your own body.
How does hunger go?
Most often, on the 6th or 7th day, the human body gets used to the new regime, manages to clear the “blockage” and goes into the autonomous mode of the upper sewage path. A person who practices fasting can calmly break it off or interrupt it if the period of fasting does not exceed 30 days. Lack of appetite during this practice is normal; it awakens in the first days of ending the hunger strike.
The delayed appearance of hunger is due to the fact that the body is forced to dissolve toxins prepared for elimination. Returning them to their place temporarily poisons the body, but in any case there will be less garbage. When interrupting the diet after 30 days, the reaction of the gastrointestinal tract is unpredictable, often the body refuses food, pushes it out of the body, eating can be accompanied by nausea and end in vomiting. The body reacts this way because in the last days of cleansing the heaviest toxins come out, which it does not want to take back.
The author of the method observed the starving people, and from his notes he concluded that the turning point was precisely the 40th day.
It is during the first days of the 4th decade that “ashes” (the same as effusion) of a different kind are evacuated through the mouth. When fasting for the first time, a person may notice changes in the color of the tongue, most often from yellow to brown; with subsequent fasts, the clinical picture may change.
By the last day of the hunger strike, the tongue becomes completely clear of effusion, pink-red in color, and an appetite appears, allowing you to regain lost body weight.
The 40-day fast follows a given pattern. Cleansing is divided into 6 stages - weeks, the first is often difficult, depending on whether the person has fasted before, how polluted his body is and whether he is adapted to a quick adjustment and change of regime. The second is more vigorous than the first, and the third is even easier than the second. In fact, week 3 is the most easily tolerated. The fourth week feels similar to the second and is tolerable.
The last 2 are hard; it is in the fifth and sixth weeks that heavy waste is removed from the body. Stopping fasting before the 5th or 6th week is extremely unprofitable; almost all the work done will go down the drain. Suvorin claims that relief from chronic diseases occurs in the last weeks of hunger.
How are the weeks going?
The first half of a forty-day fast, that is, its 1st, 2nd and 3rd weeks, passes due to internal accumulations and the body’s strength. During these 21 days, the influence is greater on the nervous system, it is freed from everything unnecessary, calms down, and is renewed. The second half takes place under nutrition from the body’s mental reserves; in 3 weeks the body completely uses up internally stored carbohydrates and fats; strength can only be maintained through a renewed nervous system.
Weeks 4, 5, 6 are aimed at treating chronic and infectious diseases, as well as inflammatory processes and exacerbations.
Suvorov suggested that due to the second part of the forty-day fast, which affects the mental state and nerve connections, a surge of magnetic tension occurs in the body, which is why he presented the technique as therapeutic.
Due to the sudden rise, the bacteria and bacilli should die, thereby eliminating the disease. The author of the method was firmly confident in his assumption, since he observed people who were cured in this way from syphilis, trachoma and other difficult diseases.
Fasting is a natural process, this is the motto of Suvorov’s method. The full period of purification is approximately 40 days, without significant deviations. Cleaning has its limits, like all natural processes (for example, pregnancy lasts about 9 months).
To end the hunger strike, it is not enough to achieve a clean tongue from effusion of all colors and shapes; you need to achieve a state where the consistency of saliva becomes sweet and liquid. During hunger, saliva is usually viscous and bitter; in order to achieve a different state and taste, Suvorin developed some of the techniques given below.
Body condition
Those who are fasting, remember that nervous strength is more difficult to restore than physical strength. The weight will return immediately after fasting, and at the end you will have a good appetite, which will allow you to restore your previous reserves. You should not load your stomach from the first day of the end of the hunger strike; there is a possibility that the heart will not be able to withstand it; swelling of the legs will be a sign. It’s easy to get rid of such a disease - just fast for a day and everything will subside. Still, you should not allow such conditions; after hunger, eat bland food in small portions, gradually increasing the volume.
For 40 days, while the full cycle of fasting is in progress, the human body remains in a special, previously unknown state.
The body does a lot of work to cleanse and correct deficiencies and irregularities in its functioning, while at the same time providing enough energy and strength to lead a normal life without food and energy coming from outside. The human condition at this time is different, it is normal, but very different from what we are used to. The body does not excrete more than 1,600 calories per day from internal reserves, which is quite enough for normal life activities without exhausting work or strong mental stress. That is, for 40 days of fasting, it is better to exclude prolonged exercise and anything that requires large energy expenditures.
Pain during fasting
Since hunger prevents the occurrence of inflammatory processes, if an accidental viral infection of the ARVI group appears, you should not refuse it. For treatment, even water should be excluded for 1-3 days, then the disease will recede on its own.
By the end of the forty-day cleansing, the human body is noticeably exhausted, subcutaneous fats and part of the muscle tissue are gone. The person noticeably loses weight, by the 40th day he resembles a walking skeleton and looks deplorable. However, the body quickly returns to normal with the start of nutrition.
Appearance signals complete exhaustion and exhaustion, but the person has plenty of vitality. Often, after fasting, people are cheerful and cheerful, absolutely healthy and stable in psycho-emotional terms, and full of self-confidence.
Fasting > forty days
If the disease is firmly entrenched in the human body and it was not possible to get rid of it within 40 days, then you can slightly extend the period of fasting. Such diseases are determined by the passage of days; at approximately 35-37 days people begin to experience crises and exacerbations of symptoms; day 40 is characterized not by relief from sores, but by a deterioration of the condition. In this case, the approach is individual and all you can do is wait. It is not recommended to extend the fast beyond 9 weeks. A person who is completely confident in the method can withstand such a period, so it is necessary to discuss all the details with the patient and help him come to the correctness of the method.
Contraindications
The fasting method under consideration has its contraindications, which must be followed. That is, it is not suitable for everyone and, in the end, serious obstacles may arise in front of you. Categories of people who are prohibited from fasting:
- Pregnant women;
- Children under 16 years of age;
- Nursing mothers;
- To old people.
In general, if you are not confident in your health, then it is best not to start experimenting. This way you will only harm yourself. Today, there are a large number of different fasting methods that can really cure you.
A complex of physical activity, refusal to eat and other categories of restrictions are beyond the power of weak people. Therefore, it is very difficult for people to endure such tests if their body cannot cope with the recommendations. In general, in the book written by Suvorin, everything is described in detail, this is where you can get the required information.
Procedures for fasting
Taking laxatives. Magnesia is used at the onset of hunger to cleanse the intestines of undigested food and undigested products. If you skip the use of a saline laxative in the first stages, then the transition to the second path of waste disposal will occur more slowly, and all unprocessed pieces of food will turn into pus. Vaseline oil is not absorbed by the human body; it has no taste. The oil should be used once every couple of days during the entire forty-day cleanse to eliminate intestinal obstruction.
Sena is taken instead of petroleum jelly when the latter does not suit you. The herbal laxative has a taste, the body partially processes it, so the restructuring of internal processes when taking sena will be more difficult.
Use of enemas. During hunger, an enema does not act as a cleanser, but as a supplement. The body needs water, and it is difficult to obtain sufficient quantities of it through the usual route of sewage disposal, so they resort to replenishing the water balance in this way. It is recommended to drink water when you are hungry as little as possible (after a warm bath or enema), only when you are very thirsty, no more than 2 liters per day.
Stomach cleansing
Cleaning the gastrointestinal tract is not a pleasant procedure. It is necessary to induce vomiting; to do this, take 3 glasses of water, the temperature of which is slightly above room temperature, and press on the small tongue or root.
Morning work-out
10 exercises that affect the entire body, 10 times each at a slow pace. Gymnastics in the morning has a tonic effect on the body. The subconscious mind receives a signal: the organs are functioning. Therefore, it does not allow them to stop working during the day.
Exercises
- Walking;
- Conducted at a moderate pace, you need to walk >6 km per day;
- Rhythmic breathing.
Rhythmic breathing is practiced while walking, carried out according to the Suvorin method. The essence is to inhale and exhale through a specific number of steps: 3 steps - inhale, 3 steps - exhale. The amount is easy to determine yourself based on how you feel. The exercise should not cause delays in air flow or excessively forced breathing.
Massage
It is also carried out according to the Suvorin method, performed in a supine position. Massage is rubbing, stimulating metabolic processes. It is carried out like this: a person lies down in bed and rubs himself with little effort, the approximate pace is 2 movements per second.
Performed 2 times during the day and 1 at night. The criterion for a properly performed massage is a feeling of warmth in the body.
Why 40 days?
It is known that in the body, especially in people who are obese (who resort to fasting methods), many processes are disrupted, in particular metabolism. Therefore, food cannot be properly digested, some of it accumulates, replenishing fat reserves. It takes time to start the natural process of deep internal and complete cleansing.
It is unlikely that a daily or three-day fast will give such an effect. Yes, the weight comes off, sometimes up to 2 kg per day. But what then? Having barely returned to normal life, people quickly regain their previous weight, sometimes even a little more. The kilograms seem to “run” back! What should I do? Shouldn't you starve forever or every other day? Books that describe Suvorin’s technique also touch on this problem.
The right way out is important here, then normalization of the diet. All this will help maintain the new weight acquired with such difficulty and internal cleansing, otherwise unhealthy food will again accumulate toxins inside the body. Perhaps, if all the tips of the technique are fully applied, repeated fasting will not be required.
Initiation and maintenance of hunger
According to Suvorin, before the start of hunger there are 3 preparatory days. The first two involve giving up eating meat. Give preference to products of dairy or plant origin. On day 3, an extremely light breakfast and lunch are served, and a laxative is drunk for dinner.
6 main rules:
- Avoid eating;
- Drink clean water - up to 2 liters per day, exclude other liquids;
- Carry out daily cleansing of the intestines and stomach;
- Stop taking medications;
- Consult with your supervisor, if available. If there is none, then carry out control yourself, sum up the results every 3-4 days, weigh the correctness of your actions.
- Do not be afraid!
Everyone determines the duration of fasting independently, the therapeutic period lasts from 2 to 6 weeks, in rare cases the period can be increased to 9. For normal cleansing, 1-2 weeks is enough.
The first day of fasting, after entering it correctly, looks like this:
- A laxative taken at dinner the previous day will work in the morning or at night.
- Afterwards an enema is given - 1.5 (2) liters of drinking water, without impurities. The temperature is about 40 degrees, not less than 35. It is recommended to perform an enema using the Shchadilov technique.
- At the end of the procedures, drink half a liter of water.
What you need to know
How do you know that everything is going as it should and there is no reason to worry? Suvorin identified indicators indicating the correctness of the process:
- the person sleeps well, falls asleep quickly;
- a fasting person drools so profusely that he needs a large number of handkerchiefs;
- There is an abundant discharge of pus or sputum from the maxillary sinuses, lungs and stomach, the amount of excess fluid reaches two hundred grams, you cannot swallow mucus, you need to spit and blow your nose.
Pills
Suvorin outlined five rules for managing hunger:
- completely eliminate food;
- try to drink less water;
- clean the stomach and intestines every day;
- weigh yourself every other day;
- refuse medications in any form (tablets, injections, etc.).
A way out of hunger
Recovering from hunger is not easy: after cleaning, you will feel an appetite, this will make the task much easier. The release lasts 1-2 weeks. Do not cancel the enemas for 4 days, take a decoction of wormwood before meals (1 sip is enough). Avoid laxatives. Lie in warm water every day and rub your body with olive oil. All this will help you return to waste disposal route 1 and prevent constipation.
Before eating foods for the first time, clean your mouth by chewing a slice of stale bread and a piece of apple, do not swallow them, but spit them out immediately. Chew so that the pulp touches all parts of your mouth.
- Days 1 and 2 – carbohydrate days;
- 3, 4 – protein-carbohydrate, while proteins can be taken from both dairy products and vegetable products;
- The following days - vegetable fats, proteins (as above), carbohydrates.
If you properly overcome hunger using the Suvorin method, no problems with restoring body weight will arise.

I went hungry for 21 days using this method. The upper paths never opened. Although last time I starved on water for 14 days and everything worked out the best way. Something is wrong with this system. I decided to continue on juices for the next 21 days. I chewed an apple before this, achieved sweet saliva, and today, on the second day, the upper unfortunate paths opened on the juices. I expectorate and spit as promised. Now I don’t know how to continue to stay on the water or leave the juices? I understood one thing: dry fasting is not for me. The lethargy was terrible, although I followed all the procedures exactly. Shortness of breath, although my heart is healthy. I re-read the methodology every day.
