Otindole is a combination drug that has a local anesthetic, disinfectant and antiseptic effect.
Pharmacological actions of the drug due to the properties of the active substances included in its composition:
- boric acid: slightly irritates granulation tissues, has a fungistatic, antiseptic effect;
- Procaine: has a wide range of therapeutic effects and is a local anesthetic with moderate anesthetic activity. Due to the fact that the substance is a weak base, it prevents the conduction of impulses along nerve fibers and the generation of impulses at the endings of sensory nerves, and blocks sodium channels. Without having a pronounced effect on the resting potential, procaine changes the action potential in the membranes of nerve cells. The use of the drug serves to suppress both pain and other modalities of impulses.
Boric acid
Boric acid is absorbed through mucous membranes, wound surfaces and damaged skin. The drug penetrates especially well through the mucous membranes and skin of young children. There have been reports of deaths following accidental ingestion or application of boric acid to damaged skin.
The substance is excreted slowly and accumulates with repeated use. Almost ½ of the dose is excreted in the urine within 12 hours, the remaining part is excreted over a period of 5 to 7 days.
Procaine
The drug undergoes complete systemic absorption. The degree of absorption is influenced by the site and route of administration (especially vascularization and blood flow velocity in the area of administration), concentration and amount of the final dose.
Procaine is hydrolyzed by liver and plasma esterases quickly, resulting in the formation of two main pharmacologically active metabolites - para-aminobenzoic acid and diethylaminoethanol. Para-aminobenzoic acid is a competitive antagonist of sulfonamide chemotherapy drugs and can weaken their antimicrobial properties; diethylaminoethanol has a moderate vasodilator effect.
The half-life of procaine varies from 30 to 50 seconds, in the neonatal period - from 54 to 114 seconds. The substance is mostly excreted by the kidneys in the form of metabolites. About 2% (no more) of the drug is excreted unchanged.
Is it worth taking risks for the sake of harmony by taking Mazindol?
There is no doubt that the drug promotes weight correction. But its long-term use has revealed that the negative effects on the body exceed the positive ones. Side effects occur in the vast majority of patients.
For some of them, the consequences of even short-term use of Mazindol are irreversible. Therefore, in many countries the drug is completely prohibited.

- until the end of the course, 1 tablet 2-3 times a day, subject to satisfactory tolerance.
In the second half of the course of treatment, a slight decrease in the anorexigenic effect of the tablets may be observed, this is explained by the addictive effect. The duration of the course is from 1 to 3 months, repeated treatment is allowed after examination, not earlier than after 3 months.
Attention! Mazindol is indicated for the treatment of high obesity, when the body mass index exceeds 30 kg/m2; the drug can be used with a BMI ≥27 kg/m2 if obesity aggravates the course of concomitant diseases.

- recovery after stroke and myocardial infarction;
- epileptic seizures;
- glaucoma;
- Stage 2 or 3 hypertension;
- tendency to medication or drug addiction;
- pathologies of cerebral circulation.
Relative restrictions on taking the medication include disorders of the thyroid gland, increased nervous excitability, chronic insomnia and diabetes mellitus. In addition, the drug must not be combined with antidepressants from the MAO inhibitor category.
When using tablets, the following negative manifestations may occur:
- increased sweating;
- dry mouth;
- headache;
- difficulty breathing;
- swelling of the larynx;
- increased blood pressure;
- skin rashes;
- sleep disturbance;
- urinary retention.
If pronounced negative signs appear, the dosage should be reduced or the drug discontinued. Experts note that Mazindol increases the risk of developing mental disorders. The use of anorectic drugs that have a central effect often causes visual and auditory hallucinations and depressive disorders, including suicide attempts.
In addition, with prolonged use of a pharmaceutical drug there is a risk of developing drug dependence, so before using it you should consult a doctor who will select the optimal dosage regimen and duration of treatment.
Who should take Mazindol?
