Elliptical trainer: reviews of those losing weight and results

Since I had experience working with the most budget-friendly models of ellipsoids, I decided not to risk it again and not to save money, but to buy a decent simulator. Which, in fact, I have never regretted.

My Kettler RIVO M has become an excellent assistant in losing weight. Soft and smooth movement, absence of any confusing sounds and creaks that create the impression that the entire structure is about to collapse. It’s difficult to call it light - as much as 12 kilograms. But I think this is the ideal weight for this item. You won’t pump up your legs on it, but you will definitely tighten up and improve your body, and besides, it’s very convenient to do cardio on an elliptical trainer. Simply wonderful, I recommend it to everyone!

When I bought the exercise machine, I started exercising every day for 60 minutes, while watching a movie or reading a book. I didn’t regulate my diet. But there was no effect. Then I began to study with greater concentration without any outside activities and changed my diet a little. I trained more intensely, using my arms. As a result, I got rid of almost two kilograms in 10 days. My legs didn’t get much pumping because I use it at the lightest level.

Since childhood I had a craving for sports, and the elliptical became a unique find for me. I worked out for 6 months, 30 minutes a day, and managed to lose 10 kilograms and return to my previous shape. I didn’t change my diet much, but I started eating in smaller portions.

When we bought it, I started walking for an hour, reading a book at the same time or watching TV. After a week I realized that the effect of such training was zero. I changed the training scheme to 2 times a day for 20 minutes, without movies or books. As a result, I lost 2 kg in 8 days.

In 3 months I walked almost two hundred kilometers. I train 3-4 times a week for 45-60 minutes. The legs took on a more attractive shape, the butt also pumped up (it didn’t increase in volume, but became more “sticky” :)). I don’t need to lose weight, I work out for muscles, and I can say that the result is noticeable.

Ellipsoid - super! I've been studying for two months. The figure has become slimmer, relief appears. I’m losing weight quite quickly, although I don’t particularly follow a diet, only after 6 meals. A year ago, people in public transport mistaken me for a pregnant woman, but now my clothes are getting bigger. Great!

I've been training for two weeks. Every day for about an hour. Plus, I also do abdominal exercises, squats, or hula hoops. Nutrition: last meal no later than 6-7 hours, I eat mostly porridge, drink about 1.5 liters of water.

The results are not yet impressive, but still noticeable, especially in the mirror. I lost a total of 3 kg in these two months, but as soon as I eat normally, I immediately gain a kilogram more...

I can also leave my review about the elliptical trainer - there are results for losing weight, but you need to try. When I bought it, I started exercising for 20-30 minutes, not particularly regularly, and gave up because there was no result.

I'll share my experience. Workouts are 40 minutes each - in three weeks I lost 5 kilograms and my body is clearly toned. Nutrition, of course, also played a role - I don’t eat sweets, fatty foods and baked goods, I try to eat more protein foods.

An elliptical trainer for home is great! The legs become beautiful and do not pump at all. If you don’t follow the diet, but also don’t overeat (especially at night), then the kilograms will slowly but go away. And if you follow a diet, a slim figure awaits you very soon.

I bought it for my wife and use it as a hanger. But in bad weather it really helps me out. The load on it is excellent, and thanks to the sensors it is easy to monitor your pulse. If you're bored, the player and TV will help.

An inconvenient thing. I had a lot of exercise equipment at home, so I can compare. It’s boring to study with everyone, so you need to combine it with something. An exercise bike is best suited for this - your head doesn’t move, so you can read and even work on your laptop if you get the hang of it. On the “ellipse” there is only a player and a TV. Many people choose it because, in addition to the legs, the shoulder is also involved - I haven’t noticed anything like that.

If we put it into perspective (all exercise machines eventually become hangers), then at first glance the elliptical trainer seems to be a winning option, since it has large pedals where you can put something. But no, they are mobile.

I love this trainer. I'm constantly friends with him. If after running on the track my knee joints ache the next day, then after training on the ellipse this never happened. in a year…..with the help of sports I lost 10 kg. so it’s very effective!!!! my trainer told me that the ellipse is very good for losing weight.

Yesterday I bought myself an ellipsoid…. I am indescribably delighted!!! This is something!! I usually ran in the park and 40 minutes of interval training was enough for me, but here 60 minutes of an incredible buzz, and I would still train))))) I’m very happy)) Let’s see what happens next!!! I read a bunch of reviews, everyone is very happy with the results of training on the elliptical trainer!

Yes, the trainer is good, especially if you need to burn a lot of kcal (it turns out min 500, max 700 per hour, usually 600), it doesn’t pump up your legs like when running (which is very important for me), you can work out the lateral abdominal muscles, back, arms . Different levels help you choose a load that is effective and accessible to you. Yes, sometimes it works as a hanger and dust collector, but when you want to get in shape, turn on music, a movie and go! If you take a good acceleration, you start sweating after 10 minutes. You can use it for a long time

Girls, buy an ellipsoid, don’t hesitate, the thing is super! I’ve been using it for half a year, I really like it, in my opinion it’s the most optimal cardio machine for home workouts, it works the whole body and there’s no stress on the joints, thanks to the choice of load levels and programs it doesn’t get boring (you want to “go skiing”, you want to “climb a mountain” etc.). It seems to me that it is better to take a set of at least 10 built-in programs, there is more opportunity to diversify your workouts and, accordingly, you will not abandon your classes. As for the combination of price and quality, if it is not possible to buy a good new one, look for a used one on the Internet; probably in every city there will be people who do not understand what treasure they own and are trying to sell it (accordingly, test it before buying). Good luck!

I use an elliptical trainer at home and my feedback is quite positive. I don't mind the money I spent. Apart from the legs, there is no load on the body at all. To avoid getting bored, I watch a movie while working out. I use it more in winter, when you can’t ride a bike and don’t feel like going out for a run in the cold.

It seems boring to me because the movements are monotonous; at the first opportunity I replace it with group classes at the fitness center. But my boyfriend uses it almost every day and the result, of course, is noticeable.

I love it! After the treadmill my knees sometimes ache, but after the ellipse this never happened. In a year, minus 10 kg, although it’s true that I wasn’t the only one who worked on it, but it still definitely has its merit. The instructor told me that the elliptical trainer is great for weight loss.

I gave it to myself for the New Year. I consulted in advance with a trainer and a doctor (I have back problems) - both of them approved of my choice. Because of all the exercise machines, this one uses the most muscles and creates the least amount of stress on the spine.

Girls, buy the “ellipsoid”, it’s super! Six months ago, I read a lot of reviews about the elliptical trainer and took it for weight loss and cardio exercise. Very pleased!

I think that this is the best option for home use – it works a lot of muscles and puts minimal stress on the joints. And thanks to different training programs, it doesn’t get boring (you can run on skis or climb a mountain, etc.).

In my opinion, it is better to take at least 10 programs so that there is more variety, then there is less risk of abandoning classes due to boredom. I advise you not to buy a cheap one, if you can’t buy a new one, then look at a used one. It seems like in every city there are people who use the “ellipse” as a hanger and want to sell it.

The essence of training

Thanks to the elliptical trainer, the heart muscle is pumped, calories are burned, and a number of muscles are developed in the hips, arms, shoulders, abdomen, back, buttocks, legs, and hamstring tendons. Additionally, the vegetative-vascular and respiratory systems are involved.

Modern models are equipped with built-in computers with monitors that display basic information - heart rate, time, speed, calories, distance, and much more. etc. Based on reviews, these are the variations that those who lose weight prefer:

“This is convenient, since you can select a special program depending on the level of training and the loads that the trainee can withstand. This allows you to use the equipment at home.”

Possible harm and contraindications

  • It is worth remembering that if you do not follow safety precautions while exercising on the simulator, you can get serious injury . To avoid this, be sure to read the instruction manual before starting your workout.
  • If you have serious diseases of the cardiovascular system, exercises on the orbit track may be prohibited. Unstable blood pressure may be a contraindication for physical activity.
  • If you are overweight, you should exercise very carefully and do not set the pace too fast, since obese people are at an extremely high risk of injury during sports activities. And the load on the vessels is colossal.
  • If you have diseases of the musculoskeletal system, you also need to use the exercise machine very carefully.

Types of ellipsoids

The developers of elliptical trainers based the operation of the unit on the movement of the pedals along the ellipse not only forward, but also backward, which, as they say, simultaneously works out different muscles. The sports equipment market offers many different models from domestic and foreign manufacturers, but they are all divided into the following types:

  1. Mechanical – the work is based on the athlete’s effort. These are the simplest and most inexpensive mechanisms. They are divided into block and belt, depending on the type of resistance. There are computerized models.
  2. Magnetic – the braking system is based on a powerful magnet. Unlike the previous version, it works without noise or jerking, smoothly and softly.
  3. Electromagnetic – new generation equipment that allows you to regulate loads. Models are distinguished by the ability to change the angles of inclination and step length on the pedals. Computers contain powerful programs in large quantities.
  4. The most expensive option is aeromagnetic. With the help of a generator in the load system, the flywheel generates energy.

There is no consensus among users about which elliptical trainer is best. This is understandable based on the following reviews:

“I prefer to practice using electromagnetic equipment - it is as modern and efficient as possible. But my sister likes the mechanical options - she says that she puts in more effort, so the muscles are developed better.”

All ellipsoids contain a main block - a flywheel, so the devices differ from each other in its location - back, front, center. The first two imitate running, the third slightly changes the trajectory of movement.

Recommendations

  1. It is strongly recommended to exercise on the simulator in special sports shoes , since otherwise the risk of foot injury increases significantly. In addition, good sneakers, as a rule, have good cushioning, due to which the load on the joints is less, and sports bring only benefits and minimal harm to the body.
  2. Don't be lazy to warm up before getting on the machine. Warming up will warm up your muscles and make your workout more effective. It’s also not a good idea to end your classes abruptly - to normalize your pulse and breathing, you should do a cool-down, a set of light, relaxing exercises.
  3. The duration of training on the orbit track should be at least 40 minutes . It is advisable to conduct at least 4 classes per week to achieve results.
  4. While moving on the simulator keep your back straight , step from toe to heel, try not to lower your head down so as not to load the cervical spine.
  5. To avoid sprains , do not move too quickly on the orbit track , especially if you have low physical fitness or neglected to warm up.

Model selection rules

When selecting an elliptical trainer for use at home, it is necessary to take into account the design features, which will allow you to exercise safely and comfortably. Particular attention is paid to the loads that the device can withstand. The athlete should not weigh more than the permissible limit. The optimal option is that a person’s weight should be 15 kg less.

The strength of equipment elements is an important indicator. If the student weighs more than 100 kg, preference should be given to stationary models rather than folding ones. Experts say that the load on the muscles is ensured by the smooth movement of the flywheel, so it must be heavy. The weight of the device affects stability. Reviews from those losing weight suggest that this makes sense. For example:

“I bought a folding elliptical trainer for home – small, compact, one might say, for women. I never had any problems during exercise, but my friend, who weighs 114 kg, turned over. Couldn’t bear his body weight (both laughter and sin).”

The pedal stride length is selected based on height and physical fitness. Trainers recommend that beginners and people of short stature use equipment with a stride length of no more than 40 cm. Those starting to lose weight are not advised to buy models that allow for changing the angle of the pedal.

Criticism of elliptical trainers

I bought a Proxima Enima trainer in Minsk. After half a year the display stopped working. The seller offered to call a paid technician. There is NO service center in Belarus. I had to call Moscow on my own. They promised to help. It all ended with a promise. DO NOT BUY this exercise machine in Belarus.

We bought our exercise machine from Sportmaster Kettler Rivo M and were more attracted by the brand and quality of the products. Only a few months later, we noticed that the latch on which the screen is attached was broken, how it was necessary to change the batteries, the Sportmaster employees broke it and didn’t even say... but oh well... then the screen began to shrink, this already happened after about 1 year... because we We didn’t use it actively for the first year and didn’t notice all the bugs. Further point by point:

1. Problems with the screen... because due to a broken latch, it began to dangle a little + to this, the screen became dim and nothing changed even after replacing the batteries, + besides, the batteries, even without active use, began to last only for a couple of months .

2. The rubberized handles began to slide down everywhere...

3. Every six months, you will have to tighten all the bolts 6 times... because if this is not done, it begins to crack and dangle in different directions. Given my weight of 75 kg, this is unlikely to be due to overload.

4. After a year, the load adjustment knobs stopped responding...+ and the pulse meter periodically began to fail.

5. Kettler has become a disposable toy and nothing more.

6. I do not recommend using this exercise machine. wasted money.

I used Torneo Festa C-310, that is, I suffered for six months. One negative. I chose a simulator for my height 181 cm and weight 115 kg. This model was suitable for the price and parameters. From the first day I realized that I had acquired “substantial hemorrhoids”! I decided to assemble it myself, because the store’s service is a bit expensive. With great difficulty, we managed to put together this miracle of technology in two days. Everything looked flimsy, creaky and unreliable. Although I lubricated everything and did it according to the instructions! The fact is that all fasteners (bolts and bushings) have large backlashes. As a result, the entire structure wobbles, sways and creaks. I had to purchase all the fasteners of the required sizes at an auto store (fortunately, they had the right ones in stock). After repeated disassembly and reassembly, this cuttlefish worked like a charm. All these adventures took two weeks. After a month of training, everything creaked and became loose again. The second time I did not dare to reconstruct this unit! But now it regularly serves as a hanger for drying clothes. Very comfortably! If you don't need problems, buy something more expensive. Take care of your nerves and health.

I bought an AeroFit exercise machine for 170,000, I thought I would do it, but a year later the cable broke. and what do you think; - the manufacturer offered me to buy another simulator!!!! They are deeply indifferent to help, at least buy the ill-fated cable that breaks in everyone’s hands, you won’t find a cable, buy a new simulator every year. There are no words, there’s nowhere to even put this pile of scrap metal!

I bought a Torneo transform before the New Year - I managed to work out 4 times for 20 minutes each - the right pedal fell off because the rectangular piece of metal welded to the ski that supported the pedal was bent, my dimensions are height 190, weight 105 kg - the permissible user weight on this simulator is 150 kg, myself the exercise machine creaks because there are plastic parts in the body

I was tempted by the reasonable price of the Clear Fit CX 450. Good characteristics, as well as by the advertising of some sellers on technical forums - as it turned out, unscrupulous. The brand itself is positioned as European, but the first sign is that they don’t sell this in Europe, our sites are for ours. But I found out about this only later, although it seemed like you should have read and thought - the goods were new in our area recently. This was the first optical illusion. Then, after 4-5 months, a terrible creaking sound began on the right. At the service center they told me to lubricate the bearing. It’s interesting that under the warranty they have to fix it for me, but for this I have to deliver it to them with a 68 kg frame, so they hint that it will be easier to do it myself (the second deception is with a practically useless guarantee which is like useful advice, but not repair). I don’t know what helped, but I think sealed bearings don’t need to be lubricated, and the lubricant shouldn’t go anywhere that quickly. I lubricated it and moved the outer bearing outward - it seemed to help. After another six months, the left side began to creak. This time, lubrication only helped for a couple of days - the creaking only got worse, and other lubrication did not help. The outer (more loaded) bearing failed again. this time for replacement because it clearly spins very poorly and slips along the axis. The part that had to be knocked down with a hammer (according to the service instructions), after screwing and unscrewing the nut several times and knocking on it, the threads on the nut and on the welded bolt broke off - you will probably have to order a new part. The bearings are obviously the cheapest disposable ones - the Chinese noname NBK. I will change the bearings on all the axles that are starting to creak, but this time I will try to install something better. But the service department probably knows about the problem (they immediately sent me a video on how to fix it), but they lie about rare cases when supposedly the factory lubricant dries out and needs to be lubricated. Who will tell you about low-quality components?

It's a shame - the simulator seems to be good when it works. My guess is that for the CIS they made a simplified design using cheap parts, but they called it not by their own name of a well-known brand (so as not to spoil the reputation), but by something so foreign - they will still steal it from us
