How many calories are in meatballs, what dietary properties they have, all this is of great interest to those who lead a healthy lifestyle and monitor their health and figure. So we will try to answer these questions in the next article.

So here it is:

How many calories are in meatballs?

Meatballs are a dish in the form of small balls made from minced meat or fish. In addition to minced meat, rice, bread, onions, eggs, spices, etc. are added to this dish. In different national cuisines, they may have different names. Cooking methods may also vary: they are fried, boiled, stewed, steamed and baked.

They are distinguished from cutlets not only by their shape, but also by two culinary characteristics:

Firstly, unlike cutlets, they are breaded only in flour, and not in breadcrumbs. The best flour for them, if they are fried, is rice, followed by wheat.

Secondly, unlike cutlets and meatballs, they are formed not only from minced meat and fish, but also from foreign additives to them: cereals (most often boiled rice) or vegetables - small pieces of tomatoes, dried fruits, mashed potatoes, which create both external and taste differences, and also have purely culinary consequences: meatballs, due to the greater looseness of their minced meat, become ready faster.

How to cook classic meatballs with rice and minced meat

We begin to prepare classic meatballs with rice at home, such meatballs were often prepared by our mothers and grandmothers, and served on the table along with the most delicate mashed potatoes.

Step 1.

Rice should be rinsed thoroughly in cool water. Rinse until the water becomes very clear. Now you need to mix the minced meat with thoroughly washed rice, add a little salt and pepper.

Step 2.

We cut the onion as desired. Some people prefer small ones, others prefer them cut into half rings or rings. It all depends on your taste and aesthetic preferences. We also chop the carrots (on a grater or using a knife). Now you need to fry the onions and carrots in a frying pan.

Step 3.

Let's form our rice meatballs. We make balls with a diameter of 3-4 cm and immediately place them on the prepared “pillow” of onions and carrots.

Step 4.

The meatballs are almost ready. All you need to do is pour boiled water over the minced meat balls in a frying pan, cover them with a lid and leave to simmer over low heat for 50-55 minutes (depending on the diameter of the meatballs).

Step 5.

The broth in which the meatballs and rice are cooked must be salted. Otherwise, the water will take all the salt from the meatballs, and they will remain unsalted. But don't overdo it with salt! In the end, it is better to add salt to a ready-made dish on a plate than to eat something that is over-salted.

Calorie calculation for 100 grams

As an example, we will calculate a portion equal to 100 grams - this is one of the standard weight measures that determines the total calorie content of a product or recipe.

The easiest and most universal option (suitable for calculating any volume of a product or ready-made dish) is the calculation by multiplying the resulting calorie content (115 grams) by a factor of 0.87, which is the result of division (100 g / 115 g).

Calorie content of 100 grams of serving = 248.3 * 0.87 = 216 kcal.

In addition, in the same way you can calculate the content of BZHU in the composition of a portion:

  1. Protein = 15.25 * 0.87 = 13.2675 ≈ 13.3 g.
  2. Fat = 16.32 * 0.87 = 14.1984 ≈ 14.2 g.
  3. Carbohydrates = 10.11 * 0.87 = 8.7957 ≈ 8.8 g.
  4. 13.3 * 4 + 14.2 * 9 + 35.2 * 4 ≈ 216 kcal

Our calculated calorie content is more than 50, but less than 250 kcal, which means that beef meatballs with rice is a medium-calorie dish with a high content of proteins and fats and an average level of carbohydrates.
