On a cold stomach! The ice diet is taking over the world

Peta Bee's achievements fell on fertile ground: just a couple of years ago, weight loss dieters all over the world were discussing the curious idea of the American doctor Brian C. Weiner.

Weiner's ice diet essentially boiled down to one simple technique - he recommended drinking (or eating?) a liter of very cold water with finely crushed ice every day.

It was allowed to add a little sweetener to the “Arctic smoothie” to simplify the task. According to the doctor, the body requires a lot of energy to melt the ice that enters the gastrointestinal tract, and due to this, fat reserves are consumed, and the calorie content of the daily menu is reduced.

In addition, patients naturally ate less as the ice-cold water filled their stomachs, Weiner reported in the Annals of Internal Medicine, a similar principle behind the popular "favorite diet."

However, Brian C. Weiner either lost interest in his method, or became interested in improving it, but the book he promised, “The Ice Diet,” never saw the light of day. But Peta Bee published a work with the same name - and woke up famous.

Reincarnation of the ice diet

Back in the century before last, some famous European movie stars, revealing the secrets of their youth, said that they eat everything cold and swallow ice cubes instead of water. But, as you know, the law is not written in the United States, and only now they had an unexpected encounter with this “new” idea.

Ice diet

Some time ago, Dr. Brian See Weiner tried to introduce the development of this system to the whole world. In a medical article published by the Annals of Internal Medicine, he suggested drinking at least one liter of ice water, or a kind of snow smoothie, every day.

Weiner justified the effectiveness of this simple technique by the fact that the body, spending a lot of energy on melting, heating and assimilation of ice, will begin to use its internal reserves to cover the energy deficit and will be forced to burn fat reserves.

In addition, in the process of testing the technique, its additional side effect was discovered - experimental subjects, drinking/eating 200-300 g of ice before meals, thereby filled most of the stomach and were saturated with a significantly smaller volume of food. Having conducted a series of tests with positive results, Weiner intended to publish them in a separate work, but something apparently “didn’t work out,” and a book with the title “Ice Diet” by him never appeared.

But the idea was promptly picked up by Peta Bee, an energetic health and beauty expert from England. Perhaps lovers of extravagant techniques will remember this positive-minded woman. Not long ago, she presented another way to lose weight while simultaneously gaining volume - aqua jogging, or running on an underwater treadmill. This technique has many advantages, except for one thing - it is affordable for three percent of the population of the entire planet, which cannot be said about the ice diet.

Apparently, having compared the possibilities, Peta B decided to promote not exercise equipment for a handful of rich people, but a diet accessible to everyone and supposedly invented by herself. She creatively modified the system, supplementing the bare diet with the rules of a healthy “chilled” life, published a book and, not surprisingly, became famous throughout the world.

Nutrition rules

A diet for weight loss involves eating all dishes cold, including soups and tea. Cold soups include okroshka, gazpacho, tomato-fish soup, cucumbers with kefir or yogurt, and beetroot soup. To make chilled tea, add ice cubes. They are also used in smoothies and fruit drinks. You need to eat as follows: within 14 hours you take food 3 times, after which you take a break for 10 hours.

You need to give preference to low-calorie foods. The energy that will be spent on digesting cold, but high-calorie food does not help reduce the overall calorie content of the dish, so you won’t be able to lose weight. Portions can be any size, but not excessive.

The ice diet is not considered a fast diet, but sometimes plant fiber can cause increased appetite, so you should not overeat. In the first days of the diet, it is not recommended to eat more than 300 g of food at one time. You need to eat 100 g of meat at a time. If this norm is exceeded, the protein load on the body will increase.

Rules of the “Ice Diet”

The duration of this diet is 1.5 months, or 6 weeks. It is assumed not only a change in diet, but a restructuring of the entire lifestyle. Changes concern the ambient temperature, food taken, warm clothing, and the like. The declared result should be from 5 to 20 kilograms of weight lost, depending on the initial data of the person losing weight.

Plus, they promise as a bonus: increased stamina and performance, improved sleep quality and even normalized blood sugar levels.

If after a one-time course of the ice diet it turns out that this lifestyle is most suitable for you, you can keep it forever and the cold will help you.

Effective exercises for losing belly fat

To make the weight loss process faster and accompanied by the formation of a seductive silhouette, do not forget about physical exercise. Particular attention should be paid to your abs so that your tummy becomes flat and toned by the beginning of spring. We bring to your attention an effective complex for pumping up the press at home during the winter diet. Each exercise is performed for 16-20 repetitions! Gradually increase the number of approaches to 50.

  1. Warm up. Sitting on the floor with your hands on the back of your head, rest your feet against a wall or sofa. Lean left and right.
  2. Twisting. With your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor, lift your head and shoulders toward your knees. Hold the elevated position for a few seconds and lower to the floor.
  3. Reverse twist. IP - the same, but we raise not the head, but the legs, slightly lifting the pelvis from the floor.
  4. While hanging on the horizontal bar, keep your legs bent at the knees for 4-5 seconds.
  5. Lying on the floor, raise your legs straight to a 90-degree angle.
  6. Lying on your back and bending your knees, lift your pelvis, holding it at the top for as long as you can.
  7. Sitting on the floor, lean back and place your hands on the floor. Pull your legs towards your stomach and lower them.

Contraindications

Ice is a beautiful, attractive substance, but dangerous. With our modern lifestyle, our body is practically not adapted to prolonged close contact with ice and cold.

Direct contraindications to the ice diet are:

  • Chronic tonsillitis and bronchitis,
  • Pregnancy and lactation period,
  • Tendency to catch colds
  • Acute and chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and other digestive organs.

Contraindications

Even if you have found no medical reason to abandon this diet, before you start swallowing incredible amounts of ice and walking barefoot in the snow, talk to your therapist, weigh the pros and cons, and only then embark on this risky endeavor.

How it works

People have repeatedly turned to the rejuvenating and healing properties of cold. Here it is appropriate to recall the famous in the past Porfiry Ivanov with his hardening method, and numerous science fiction books and films where a frozen hero rises from the dead after several centuries, as if nothing had happened. What about cryotechnologies of recent decades? All this worries, excites the imagination and it seems - here it is, a panacea, has finally been found! And we dream again and again of finding immortality and eternal youth, simply by eating cold food and sleeping in a cool place.

However, everything is not so simple, but also not hopeless. Indeed, this system worked, and long before Peta Bee was born. Previously, this was called “hardening” and was mandatory in all child care institutions. In fact, refrigerated or cold foods slow down your metabolism and require more energy expenditure. In addition, it is healthier than hot in a physiological sense. Again, the additional volume, regardless of the temperature of the substance, reduces the amount eaten, which also speaks in favor of this method of weight loss.

It is also true that with the development of civilization, people protected themselves from many of the risks inherent in wild nature. These include the vagaries of the weather, the lack of food for many days, and the need to walk, and more often run, many kilometers in search of food and shelter.

The body, as an metabolic system, is transformed not according to the laws of our urban existence, but according to ancient algorithms, when it took several million years to create each function. Therefore, we continue to eat based on all these energy costs, and they have long ceased to exist in the lives of most people. So the newly acquired ice diet and the system of “cold” life will help many to shake themselves up and bring their metabolic processes into line with modern living conditions.

And most importantly, this is an excellent opportunity to try all the dishes that, until now, may not have had a place in the daily diet - jellied meat, jellied meat, gazpacho, okroshka, and other cold soups, salads, sorbet, ice cream and everything that you consider necessary to eat without warming up. If earlier your behavior, when you stand and slurp a ladle of cold borscht straight from the pan, could be called a quirk or even worse, now you have the right to say: “Darling! I went on an ice diet!”

But it should be remembered that, just like in many other diets, the ice diet maintains a ban on sweets, baked goods, fatty, smoked, salty foods and the list goes on.

But with an ice diet, using ice and salt, you can create wonderful fruit sorbents that are tasty and healthy in 1 minute

Reviews

Oksana, 36 years old, Moscow : “I recently heard about a diet that effectively helps you get rid of extra pounds by eating cold foods, and I decided to try it. I regularly ventilated the room, washed my face with cool water, and slept in a room at a temperature of +18°C. In the morning I drank a glass of cool water, to which I added ice cubes, adding frozen Victoria berries for taste.

I had breakfast with cold cottage cheese, buckwheat with vegetables, and oatmeal. For lunch I ate vinaigrette, meat, fish, washed down with low-fat kefir. I dined on boiled beets, salmon, and homemade cheese. As a result of this diet, I lost 3 kg. I didn’t get sick from cold food, but I had an unpleasant sore throat all the time, and besides, I was a little cold. There were no problems with digestion."

Elena, 44 years old, Kaliningrad : “I learned about the ice diet from a friend who, with her help, was able to lose 6 kg. I decided to try it because I am overweight. I ate my food cold and cooled the water in the refrigerator. In the first days it was hard and I wanted something hot. In 4 days I managed to lose 2 kg, but then I had to end the diet, because I have suffered from tonsillitis since childhood, and taking cold drinks led to its aggravation. Perhaps this method would help to lose weight if not for the disease.”

Svetlana, 31 years old, Pskov : “Many of my friends who have problems with excess weight tried the ice diet. It involves the consumption of exclusively chilled food and drinks. There are no food restrictions; potatoes and meat are allowed. Hot dishes are completely excluded. Be sure to drink 3 glasses of ice water throughout the day. For lunch I ate potatoes with cutlets or soup, but I took it all out of the refrigerator. I had dinner with boiled fish, meat, and vegetables. Thanks to this diet, I managed to lose 7 kg.”

conclusions

Having considered all aspects of the ice diet, it can be recommended only to healthy adults who are not prone to colds. If the 5 hardening rules given for this diet can still be used separately for preliminary hardening, then very few people can drink ice water, especially in hot seasons, without consequences.

The diet is also suitable for extreme people who conduct all sorts of experiments on themselves and people accidentally locked in an industrial refrigerator. Others are advised to lose weight using this system with great caution.
