  • Scientific background

    In 1992, psychotherapists M. A. Gavrilov and A. V. Bobrovsky began actively studying the psychology of overweight people. For several years, they tested various techniques for correcting eating habits, conducted scientific research, and eventually developed a training system on how to maintain the results achieved after losing weight.

    In 2001, they patented and began conducting psychocorrection sessions for excess weight, published the book “How to Overcome Appetite,” and opened the first inpatient hospital in Russia (this is the main character of M. A. Bulgakov’s story “The Heart of a Dog”).

    In 2003, Gavrilov, Bobrovsky and another psychotherapist, V.V. Romatsky, developed a diet called the center and described in detail in the books “An Effective Weight Loss Program in 7 Days” and “How to Lose Weight and Stay Slim.” Its main principle of action is getting rid of the psychological causes of overeating and correcting eating habits and diet. The new power system has received approval from the St. Petersburg Research Institute named after. V. M. Bekhtereva.

    Since then, Bormenthal's diet has been constantly adjusted based on the results of ongoing research and in accordance with the realities of modern reality. All innovations are presented in additional books: A. Bobrovsky “Modern methods of weight loss” (2004), A. V. Kondrashov “Diet Doctor Bormental - the best modern method of losing weight in Russia”, “Give up and become slim” (2008), etc.

    Today, training centers in large cities train specialists for the psychocorrection of excess weight using the nutrition system.

    Basic principles

    According to the developers of the method, a person must first of all understand the reason for overeating and understand that it has nothing to do with food. This could be fear, anxiety, stress, which you need to go to a psychotherapist and get rid of. At the same time, it is recommended to start creating a new diet. The basic principles of the Bormenthal diet come down to the following points.

    Calorie counting

    With a sedentary lifestyle, the daily caloric intake is reduced to 800-1,000 kcal, with average activity - to 1,200, with intense sports - to 1,500. During illness, the bar rises by 200 kcal.

    Everything that is eaten is entered into a diary every day with calorie counting to correct the diet and work on mistakes.

    For convenience, the center’s specialists have developed calorie tables for the most commonly consumed foods. It is advisable to print them out and keep them in sight when creating a menu.

    Nutrition

    A special feature of the diet is permission to eat absolutely any food. The main rule is not to exceed the daily caloric intake. And here everyone chooses for themselves: to eat half a kilo of beef brisket or more than one and a half kilograms of bananas per day for their thousand calories.

    This approach eliminates breakdowns and constant thoughts about the forbidden. If you want a cake or fries, satisfy your desire. True, the portion sizes will be minimal, but the taste buds will get what they want, the production of endorphins will increase, which will make you not think about hunger.

    1. Meals should be fractional: often, but little.
    2. The intervals between meals are at least 3 hours and no more than 5.
    3. Breakfast - half an hour after waking up; dinner - 4 hours before bedtime.
    4. Daily calorie distribution: breakfast - 30%, lunch - 10%, lunch - 40%, afternoon snack - 10%, dinner - 10%.
    5. Protein products (full list) should be present in every meal.
    6. Be sure to eat hot foods to prolong saturation.
    7. It's better to eat sweets for breakfast.
    8. The basis of the diet is natural vegetables and fruits.

    The developers themselves recommend not to get carried away with fatty and carbohydrate foods at first, even if you follow the daily caloric intake.

    Duration

    Dr. Bormenthal's diet is a long-term method of losing weight. It is observed until the weight returns to normal. Therefore, it is useless for those who need to lose only 5-6 kg to sit on it. It was originally developed for those who are on the verge of obesity or are already suffering from it.

    The minimum course is 14 days, during which you can actually lose 10 kg. The best option is a month, and then, if results are achieved, the daily caloric intake level is increased by 200 kcal monthly to stabilize and maintain weight. Throughout the weight loss process, active work with psychotherapists is carried out.

    Diet developers recommend setting a specific goal for yourself - for example, losing 20 kg in 7 weeks (on average, the Bormenthal method allows you to get rid of 3 kg every week).

    DILEMMA ACCORDING TO GAVRILOV

    As Mikhail Gavrilov says, as he grew professionally, it became clear to him that obesity cannot be overcome by influencing the psyche alone: weight loss is a complex process. The theory is based on several theses. The first one is that human fat contains toxins, and when fat reserves begin to dissolve, the toxins enter the bloodstream. Therefore, in addition to weight loss itself, detoxification is definitely necessary.

    Let's move on to another danger. Many people are constantly in a state of mild illness due to food sensitivities. Food sensitivity is more insidious than food allergies, which a person usually knows everything about. Sensitivity implies that certain foods that a person eats without suspecting anything cause inflammatory processes of a non-infectious nature - arthritis, cystitis, sinusitis and even atherosclerosis. Here, as the specialist found out, E-supplements also have an effect. Objectively, with the help of rigorous research, their harm has not been proven, but the experience of doctor Gavrilov suggests that it exists.

    “Therefore, the first thing to do is to go on a so-called elimination-reintroduction diet, which will eliminate inflammation and restore the intestinal mucosa. In two months, when the mucous membrane regains its protective properties, the diet can be completed, says Mikhail Gavrilov. – We also need to think about bacteria – there are two or three kilograms of them in the human intestine. If the “wrong” bacteria have settled there, a person will receive toxins from food along with calories. So we can’t do without normalizing the intestinal flora.”

    True, Gavrilov’s new views were not understood by his partners, since they required additional investments - at least in training in new methods of treatment. Another disagreement arose, Gavrilov testifies: Bobrovsky and Ten, secretly from him, registered their common trademark “Doctor Bormental” for their company (according to SPARK, on September 12, 2008, MMPO “Doctor Bormental”, registered in Tomsk, filed an application for the trademark mark “Doctor Bormenthal” and received the corresponding patent on May 12, 2010).

    The partners separated. For Gavrilov and Maltseva, who were left with a third of the centers and without a trademark, difficult times came. There was a significant drop in attendance, says Maltseva, there was no money for promotion, and of the 40 centers that separated from Doctor Bormental, many had to be closed. Gavrilov and Maltseva remained co-owners of some, but this, they say, was an accident, a purely nominal ownership that has no real meaning. TV presenter Elena Malysheva advised the partners to create the Doctor Gavrilov brand. This way, promotion is significantly cheaper, says Maltseva. There is a plus in this for patients, Gavrilov is sure: “If my name is in the name of the clinic, I am responsible for its quality.” Next, Gavrilov explains how he monitors this: all trainers must have a medical diploma or a clinical psychologist diploma, and before starting work they improve their qualifications - in particular, they master Ericksonian hypnosis. And they undergo certification twice a year. And so on.

    Contraindications

    Too low daily caloric intake does not allow everyone to use a diet for weight loss. Contraindications are:

    • pregnancy, lactation;
    • impaired metabolism;
    • age under 18 and after 60;
    • infections;
    • exacerbation of chronic ailments;
    • diabetes;
    • unsettled menstrual cycle;
    • hormonal disbalance;
    • mental disorders;
    • heart problems, conditions after a heart attack or stroke;
    • oncology;
    • professional sports.

    It is not recommended to switch to Dr. Bormental’s nutrition system without consulting with specialists.

    Weight loss in the clinic

    Dr. Bormenthal's trainings are usually conducted in specialized clinics. Their main task is to help a person solve psychological problems, motivate him to lose weight and tame his rampant appetite. In addition to group classes, psychologists, nutritionists and other specialists work on each patient individually.

    The main weight correction center "Doctor Bormental" is located in Moscow. Detailed information about its specialists, services and prices can be found on the official website.

    Hypnosis and coding methods are not used in the clinic. The impact occurs through psychological activities:

    • neurolinguistic programming (NLP);
    • meditation;
    • breathing exercises.

    Advantages and disadvantages

    Advantages:

    • an integrated approach to eliminating excess weight;
    • impressive results: minus 1-3 kg for each week of the diet;
    • variety and balance of the diet: no food restrictions;
    • development of correct eating behavior;
    • comfortable psychological mood;
    • minimal risk of failure.

    Flaws:

    • individual metabolic characteristics are not taken into account;
    • difficult to combine with intense sports training;
    • constant calorie counting requires eating mostly at home;
    • too low a daily caloric intake of 800-1000 kcal can be harmful to health: with such a diet, dizziness, lethargy, drowsiness, a general decrease in performance, weakened immunity, anemia and other side effects are common;
    • intensive weight loss threatens sagging skin, muscle flaccidity and loss of physical tone;
    • it’s hard to control your appetite, especially during the holidays;
    • If you follow a diet for a long time, your weight may at some point stay in one place and not decrease.

    results

    It is worth noting that, despite the complexity of such a technique as the Bormenthal diet, the reviews and results are truly impressive. All over the world this technique is recognized as one of the most effective. Usually the weight lost does not come back. And you start losing weight with this system from the first day of use. Approximate weight loss, depending on body constitution and initial weight, in the first week is from 2 to 6 kilograms, then from 7 to 13 kg per month.

    Additional Tips

    During the day you need to drink regular water (one and a half liters or more). But psychotherapists do not recommend replacing meals with it and suppressing hunger. After meals, you are allowed to drink hot tea to prolong the feeling of fullness.

    It is better to avoid high-calorie foods in favor of low-calorie foods to make your diet more varied. And minimize the consumption of hot spices, sweeteners, alcoholic and carbonated drinks that stimulate the appetite. You only need to eat what you like, otherwise there will be no benefit.

    To get faster results, it is recommended to arrange kefir, apple and other fasting days a couple of times a week.

    Hunger is signals from the stomach to the brain, physiology. You only need to eat according to these “calls”. Appetite is born in thoughts, under the influence of mood. You can't give in to him.

    There will be no benefit from grueling training. It’s better to replace morning jogging with walking in the evenings, and exercise machines with 15-minute exercises. Otherwise, due to a low-calorie diet, exhaustion cannot be avoided.

    If you plan to lose 10 kg or more, take care in advance to prevent sagging skin. Use anti-cellulite creams, do body wraps, sign up for a massage.

    The Bormenthal diet requires mandatory consultations with a psychotherapist who will help determine the causes of excess weight and find motivation. The risk of relapse can be reduced by enlisting the understanding of friends, family and like-minded people. Moral support within the framework of this technique is of great importance for the weight loss process.

    It’s great if you have the opportunity to contact one of the Doctor Bormental clinics. They will provide informational assistance and guide you in creating a menu. You can use Internet resources where training in a special program is conducted online. The course is paid and lasts six months.

    BORMENTHAL'S DOCTRINE

    Former partners, as we predicted, have a different view of the history of their relationship and breakup with Gavrilov. According to Bobrovsky, Bormental is a system created by a group of colleagues, among whom Gavrilov was by no means the main one. Bobrovsky is not a student of Gavrilov, and he has much more published works than his “teacher.”

    The story with the common brand was complicated. In the 2000s, it was too difficult to register the trademark “Doctor Bormenthal”, because 70 years had not yet passed since the death of Mikhail Bulgakov. The writer died in 1940, so the opportunity to register a patent for the use of Bormental appeared in 2010. Bobrovsky says that he invited Gavrilov to take part in the registration, but he refused: in his opinion, Irina Maltseva should have become another co-owner. “What does Maltseva have to do with it if we are talking about a brand in the creation of which she did not take part?” – Bobrovsky, in turn, insisted.

    There were more and more disagreements, and finally Gavrilov separated “because he wanted to increase his income.” “His new system, which involves detoxification and work with intestinal flora, makes it possible to widely sell dietary supplements and “environmentally friendly products” to clients. This is how he mainly makes money. If you’ve been to his center, you’ve probably seen the shop windows,” adds Bobrovsky. On Dr. Gavrilov’s website there is indeed an entire online store, where, along with books and videos, dietary supplements and “functional foods” are offered - cereals, soups, bars, main courses. And so that patients certainly don’t pass by, dietary supplements and other products that can be bought in the online store are described in detail in Gavrilov’s book “You Just Don’t Know How to Lose Weight” (Gavrilov himself says that the share of such products in the company’s revenue is insignificant).

    According to former partners, it was no coincidence that Gavrilov remained a co-owner of some of them. “This was done “for very practical reasons, and not out of forgetfulness. If you owned a company before registering a brand, then you can continue advertising under this brand, even if it does not belong to you,” Bobrovsky sums up the dispute between business entities.

    Although the disagreements do not end there. There are also professional complaints against Gavrilov. In particular, Gavrilov in his work does not use a device that measures metabolic rate - a metabolograph. “Without knowing this parameter, it’s hardly worth talking about serious diagnostics,” Bobrovsky is sure.

    Exit

    After you have lost the required number of kilograms, another task is set - to stabilize the weight so that it does not return. To do this you need:

    • monthly increase the daily calorie intake by 200 kcal, bringing it to the desired level (calculated individually);
    • continue to eat according to the rules of the Bormenthal diet (fractionally, without prohibitions, but in small portions);
    • avoid overeating;
    • cope with psychological reasons that can lead to weight gain;
    • exercise.

    The author's diet according to Bormenthal has an unusual approach to weight loss, which guarantees amazing results. With it you can not only lose weight, but also improve your mental health.

    The essence of the Bormenthal diet

    The author himself positions it as “weight loss without prohibitions . The concept of losing weight according to Bormenthal is based on a combination of a low-calorie diet with the influence of certain psychotherapeutic techniques designed to reveal and eliminate the psychological causes of overeating.

    According to the author of the development, the cause of excess weight is always an eating disorder. Numerous problems and stress, which everyone has in abundance, cause a feeling of discomfort, which on a subconscious level is associated with hunger. To get rid of unpleasant feelings, people unconsciously begin to consume more food, especially pleasure-inducing foods such as sweet or high-calorie foods. This is how the habit of “seizing on troubles” is formed, which is then almost impossible to get rid of without the help of a specialist.

    It is very important to take into account your body type, health status and other individual physical parameters. This must be done in order to calculate the optimal weight figure. In addition, a person must become aware of his underlying psychological problems. That is, understand what exactly leads to overeating. In many cases, this requires consultation with a psychotherapist.
